This post is waaaay over due.
I can’t remember the last time I posted about running. I wouldn’t be surprised if ya’ll thought I stopped running and turned into a professional Belgian Waffle eater (a girl can dream…). Anyways, one of my favorite bloggers suggested a post on training so I thought I’d give you a glimpse of what last week looked like for me. Normally, I don’t talk about running too much in real life. I know half the world hates the sport so I just spare ‘em. However, I seriously could talk your ear off about how much I love lacing up (well most days..)
First, I should probably start off by “saying” I don’t follow a strict training plan for marathons. I know for some people it is a great way to stay motivated and on track. For me, my Type A personality gets the better of me so all the joy of running is pretty much sucked out to reach X amount of miles at X pace. The only die hard rules I have are long runs above 14 miles on the weekends 2 months out and a rest day. That’s it. It worked well for Richmond so I am just rolling with that philosophy.
Alrighty onto my week. Just a little background – this past week was mentally draining and rough but it had HUGE pay off. I’m still not comfortable posting paces but I shaved off an average of 20 seconds per run. Can I get a woot woot!? Shorter distances, but speedy! My little legs have never felt so tired.
Sunday: 11.07 miles
Monday: Rest – Blood work in the morning
Tuesday: 8.38 miles
Wednesday: 6.70 miles
Thursday: 11.1 miles
Friday: 9.72 miles
Saturday: 8.62 miles
Sunday: 10.20 miles.
Total: 65.89 miles
Slightly less miles than I get at school because I don’t like running at home due to the road conditions, uneven hills and crazy New England drivers. Oh and the deer that randomly pop out at you or scare you half to death because they are on the side of the road…dead…
Any other running questions – email me (caffeinatedrunner@aol.com) or just leave in the comments. I love talking about all things running!
That’s a lot of running girl!! Great job! I miss my running days…
I’ve never run more than a 5k but it sounds to me that you’re doing the best thing; doing it because you love it and in a way you keep loving it, that’s got to be the best! Congratulations on the speed too
Congrats on getting faster! It’s so hard for me to build up speed. And great mileage!
Awesome mileage! I don’t even think I ran that far in a month back when I was running.
Keep it up girl!
66 miles – damn, girl! You are so impressive!!!
I would NEVER think you stopped running, but I could see you eating waffles for a living! Something has to help fuel your running legs! Awesome mileage, even for a “small week” HA this would be a huge week of miles for me!
Wow! I am so impressed and inspired!
Great mileage! I’d love to run with you when you get back to VT – so keep me posted!
Way to go girl! If Belgium waffle eaters get paid you may have found your true calling
Are professional Belgium waffle eaters paid? If so I’m thinking you found your true calling
Wow you’ve been piling on those miles! Good for you, girl. My favorite: “a professional Belgian Waffle eater” <— you and I both
Awesome job! I haven’t run in SO long! I can’t wait to get back to it once the baby is born.
Oh man, deer on the side of the road would scare me too!
Awesome mileage Kailey! You are a beast =)
That’s some seriously impressive mileage, Kailey! I like your approach to training- especially with the amount of info which we have available to us, it’s easy to try and control every possible detail. Looks like a more laid back approach is working for you so stick to it
!
Wow nice miles!! The one thing I’m nervous about for my marathon training is longer runs during the week.. how on earth do you find the time???
Wow, that’s some awesome mileage! Way to be! I like that you don’t follow a specific schedule for marathons… I need to give that a try
You are so hard core! When do you run? I’d love to run that much, but I have issues fitting it in with work. Any advice? I’d love to know what you do.
I’ll admit I don’t have job – I am a full time student so I make the most of my mornings. Weekdays I get out the door by 8, but my weekends are fair game
Holy crud, you are beast! Way to go girl
Hope some of your running wisdom rubs off on me for my upcoming long runs!
Oh wow, I am MASSIVELY jealous at your consecutively long runs – one rest day in the week!! You’re legs must be like iron hehe. Long runs scare me a bit but I really need to get into them. I’m gradually building up my distances but it’s tough. The furthest I’ve ever run is 10 miles.
Am I seeing things or did you give your blog a revamp? Well whether or not you did, I LOVE your lay out! LOVE IT!
Have you ever added up all your miles you have run and then figured out how many states you could have crossed (or at least cities you could have run to?)?? It’s kind of cool to think about it… Or maybe this is just something I do when I have too much freetime on my hands? AHHH HA HA HA!!
This sounds like a really cool idea! I’m going to have to do that – thank you for introducing another way to procrastinate
I got into running last year and actually ended up running the Columbus Half Marathon. The furthest I had run (prior to the race) was 6 miles so I was in shock when I completed the half. The biggest thing I’m hoping to do this year is stick to a committed training plan but I am getting discouraged because I feel like I have already ‘lost’ my endurance I had once built up. Any suggestions with how to get motivated back into it? Should I just start small (like train for a 5K?) or would you suggest training as if I were to run a 10K?
I can’t believe how many miles you’re able to run in a week. I really hope to get to that point one day. You’re definitely motivation alone

Whoa, good for you!! Seriously, when six miles is your shortest run you know you’re an awesome runner. Congrats on taking time off! I think that your whole approach to mileage is awesome, too. I can relate to the whole type A thing for sure as I’m following my plan. That’s great that it works for ya!

(I still can’t figure out how to comment without it showing up all weird so I’ll just leave my name on the top from now on
You know… curious runners would love to see a running log history compiled somewhere
if you don’t use a strict training plan, how do you decide your effort/distance/time etc.
I just wing it
No plans = no expectations = no disappointment.
Look at those miles!!!! Awesome job!
Holy cow–look at that mileage!
Dang girl, get it!!
way to go lady love! I am highly impressed with that mileage
Wow awesome high mileage! Impressive. I like that attitude you have about your training. That kind of philosophy works for me as well.
Dang girl! Some great miles! Way to go. I like tht you’re just rolling with a training plan kind of. That’s how I’m going too
Ya running in New england can be super difficult this time of year, way to play it safe. i am so glad to hear you are totally loving these miles, you are probably one of the smartest runners I know out there so way to keep rocking it!
Great numbers, girl! Awesome just lowering those times
I’m really excited you are posting a few training posts. I was telling Shannon that I am just so in awe by you and your running. You aren’t broadcasting anything, (as I ranted about yesterday) but boy do you kick butt. I cannot wait to see how the marathon goes (though I’m secretly wishing you were doing Shamrock!).
I love talking about running, too–awesome job!!
I think a professional Belgian waffle eater/maker is a great goal
Awesome job on the speedy runs!
Great job on the run time!! Keep it up!
BAM!!! Applause:) That is wicked impressive, sweets. Keep it up!!
Awesome runs this week
I like not having a strict plan too – mileage goals or pace goals just blind me from enjoying running and actually going by feel.
Wow, you definitely haven’t stop, you are running like crazy! Good for you!! And nothing wrong with being a professional waffle maker/eater
Can professional Belgian Waffle eater be a job? Please? I have the perfect resume for it.. I’d totally get the job. Haha, anyway, awesome job with the running! You go girl.
Wow. Awesome job! When is your marathon??
April – the Dallas Big D
Wait… New England drivers. How did I not know where you were from?! We totally could have run together while we were home for break! That is some serious mileage! Great job
crazy mileage, you GO GIRL!
